June 16, 2013- Baylor Dean Hansen- Happy Father's Day

Ok so I do not want to forget details of Baylor's birth so here it goes....

I decided to stay with my mom the beginning of that 3rd week in June and not go back with Dean to Mindy's just in case baby boy came early. So Dean drove up Friday evening and stayed with Mya and I at my moms in Franklin. Saturday the 15th we washed both vehicles inside and out, I packed my hospital bag just because I love to be prepared, Dean helped my mom plant some planters, we took Mya on a 4wheeler ride, we sat and talked while the men split fire wood, and ate. All morning I had some light contractions but nothing too close or intense so I didn't think much of it I thought by wednesday the 19th he would come but no sooner. In the afternoon my contractions were still just uncomfortable and tight but nothing intense like they were with Mya so Dean and I went on a ride to Mink Creek (we love Mink Creek and it makes us happy)  then on our way back we got a fresh raspberry shake (this was around 3 pm and this was the last thing I ate). We got back and Dean was getting ready to go move pipe with my brothers, I lost my mucus plug and my contractions were really close and had been since Mink Creek. I called the doctor just to be sure because my mom lives 30 mins away and I did not want to miss my epidural and I did not want to be turned away:) so I spoke with her and she said to come in because I was dialated to a 3 the wed before and it was my second child so I would go sooner she predicted. So I came back in the family room and said, "ya Dean let's go" he said, "now? are you sure? can you wait 30 min while I move pipe?" um....dumb question :)....

So off we went...the feelings I felt were so much different than when we had Mya. I was in denial because it was 2 and a half weeks earlier than my due date so I thought oh they will probably turn me away because I really wasn't in any pain. Dean kept saying, "Whoa I'm nervous. I can't believe this is happening. I need to use the bathroom" haha oh Dean!

We got checked in at around 6:30 pm and I was still not feeling much I was just in denial. They checked me and said I was almost a 5 and the doctor said to admit me and he was going to brake my water to get things going.   Sadly my doctor-Dr. Kirkman- was gone to Salt Lake but Dr. Noorda was great! He was a little younger and acted like a 20 year old surfer guy:) he was so funny. While he was braking my water I was holding Dean's arm and it hurt so I was squeezing and Dean said, "ow Lacey my cyst. ow!" (he has a cyst in his wrist that is kind of tender) the doctor and I just kinda laughed after and I looked at him like um....ow what? ya right! haha after that Dr. Skabelund came in to give me my epidural at around 8 pm ish then baby boy decided to slow down so after 45 min with no improvement they gave me some pitosin (spelling?) so the next 4-5 hours they would up the pitosin and then lower it then up it and slowly but surely I finally was complete at around 1 am sunday the 16th. The doctor had made a guess that the baby was coming sat at 1030pm the nurse guessed before midnight and Dean and I had no idea what to guess but they were both wrong and Baylor decided he wanted to wait until Father's Day. I started pushing at 1:03 am and after about 4 pushes he came at 1:11 am June 16, 2013!!!

Dr. Noorda clamped the cord and Baylor grabbed his finger while he was doing it and the Dr. just laughed he thought that was so fun. Dean cut the cord and they laid my beautiful perfect boy on my belly. He weighed 7 lbs 4 oz and was 20 inches long. I don't want this to sound braggy but he seriously was perfectly healthy! Our prayers were answered Dean and I just wanted him here healthy and he came here just that way and we feel so blessed!

I on the other hand had a few incidents with my health. Dr. Noorda said I had a 1st degree vaginal wall tear but it wasn't bad. He was worried a little bit with all the blood I was losing. I hurried and told him that a few weeks ago my blood count was 28 and I am anemic. He then told the nurse-her name was Dee and I loved her- to give me a shot of something and then a few mins later he said give her another dose. So after he was done with me the nurses helped me sit up and adjust my legs i kind of blacked out and just laid back down the nurses checked my blood pressure and it was 80/40!!!! yeah i was almost dead. so they laid my head back lower than the rest of my body and I felt a little better. Then they gave me some cheddar sunchips then some orange juice. (remember i don't want to forget details) then after some skin-to-skin with Baylor I started nursing him and then I told Dean "grab a bucket" so then I preceded to vomit a few times and all I kept saying in between was "is Baylor ok?" and he just kept on nursing. I'm so thankful for how fast he latched on and he has done great with it. He's my good boy!

We got up to the mother baby floor and after a bit the nurses helped me up to the bathroom and after a did my job :) I stood up and said "give me a second" then the next thing I remember is lying on the bathroom floor the nurse was holding my head and there were 3 other nurses yelling at me "Lacey open your eyes! what's your name?" and as my vision was returning I whispered Lacey. They got me on the bed and got me some juice. I felt better after some breakfast but they still helped me up for the rest of the day. Dean said he was yelling at me to wake up and he got really scared. He is such a good husband and was awake with me the entire night and was there waiting on me hand and foot. I'm so lucky to have him!

That's about it. The rest of our stay was pleasant. I would have to say that Mya's labor was more painful at the beginning but was smooth after my epidural and Baylor's was smooth until after I had him and then it was a bit more painful. But all in all they were both great and I feel very fortunate to have 2 beautiful babies!!! I'm so grateful for modern medicine and for all the support we have had during this weird transition from new job, to moving, to living with family, to having a baby, and to purchasing a house. I love our families and can't imagine life without them!
